Seña wine was born from a collaboration in Chile between Viña Errázuriz and Robert Mondavi. Since 2005, Seña has been 100% owned by the Chadwick family, owners of Errázuriz, and is the personal project of Eduardo Chadwick. The vineyard has 42 hectares of cultivated vines, and sold 5,000 cases of wine in 2015. Since 2005, it has been considered a company that participates in organic farming, using the biodynamic method.
Eduardo's ambition is to create an emblematic Chilean wine, one that fully expresses the terroir (viticultural identity linked to the soil, exposure and local climate) of the Aconcagua Valley north of Santiago. The inaugural vintage of Seña, which in Spanish means distinctive sign or personal signature, was 1995. The wine is made from a blend of six of Bordeaux's classic red grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Seña grapes come from the Seña Hillside Vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley, where the vines are grown using biodynamic principles. The wine is currently produced at the Don Maximiano Estate winery in Errázuriz in the Aconcagua Valley.
